If you know me at all you know my passion for eating right, exercising and being healthy. I am NOT perfect by any stretch at all. Moving to Mississippi from North Carolina has been a real eye opener. In NC, we were blessed to have places like
Whole Foods, Earth Fare, Trader Joes, a HUGE LOCAL
Farmers Market in the Piedmont Triad where we lived. We had really grown accustomed to places like that. We had
Planet Fitness and private gyms and the newest was
THE RUSH on every corner it seemed. We had an AWESOME park to walk, run, bike through that went all over Greensboro and you could run in one direction for almost 10 miles and never have to worry about getting run over by a car whose driver was on the phone and not watching the runner on the road.
Here in Amory, we don't have Whole Foods, Earth Fare, Trader Joes or a Farmers Market open all year. We don't have a gym on every corner. We don't have a
"Country Park" and it was REALLY hard to adjust to.
Running in Amory is great....it's flat!!!!! The down side is that people love to talk on their cell's while they are driving. We do have an incredible
Wellness Center at the hospital that is getting ready for some upgrades. We have
Anytime Fitness and we have
B-Train!!!!!!!! The gyms and workout places are there......JUST GET INVOLVED!!!!!!!!
BUT WAIT!!!!!!!
Guess what my city is doing????????? We now are going to have "Healthy Hometown Committee"!!!!!! I saw it on Facebook and got SOOOOO EXCITED!!!!! They are busy and doing all kinds of things around town. When I looked at the
stats on Mississippi and saw that the Obesity rate is >35%, my heart just sank. This state has so much to see and do and be active.....something needs to be done and this is why I am sooooo excited to see this happening here in my tiny town. They are posting all kinds of things on their Facebook page which is awesome. We have a new playground going in. Kids are active with sports!!!!!! I mean VERY active. Yet on the flip side, I do see those who are not and it breaks my heart!!!!!! Of course I am a huge
The Biggest Loser Fan. This year they had Kid Ambassador's. I watched every week and it broke my heart watching the kids. I was the "big-girl" at school. I have been there. It was a lot different years ago. Now with the epidemic of bullying, things are a lot worse. Yet those that were the "big-kids" back in the 70's may still be the "big-people" of today. It's time for something to change.
I wanted to share the post that Amory put on their
Facebook Page. There is a committee (I deleted the names because I didn't ask them if I could post them.) They are BUSY BUSY BUSY!!!! Soooo excited to see what is happening!!!!!!!!!!!
